Title of Question: CNC router build ideas

The Question: Hey Steve.
I’m getting ready to build a cnc router in a room in the basement of my house. I really cant afford to loose much floor space for a large 4×8 machine like id like to build but being able to route a full sheet of plywood would be so cool.

My idea and the question or advice i need is
I’m thinking of building a large machine and mounting it vertically on the wall. My basement has a concrete floor and concrete wall so I’m thinking of anchoring steel to the floor and wall and mount the axises on there side?
I can see making it 9 or 10 feet wide by 6 or 7 feet tall. easily and only sticking out from the wall maybe 2 feet which will be the z axis. It could home at the sealing and it would not be in the way much at all.

I can see the gantry being made heavy and when its all complete i can see pulleys and counter weights being used to help the gantry move up and down really smooth and effortlessly with not so huge stepper motors.

My Question for you is can you see any potential down sides to making a large router this way?

Thanks
Ron
