USB Cable Buying Advice: The Best for your Money – Ask a Tech #25

Posted by & filed under Video Post 2.

The wire gauge wiring that a USB cable contains can make a huge difference. If the power carrying wires are to small, charging may become slow or items like web cameras may even fail.
Wiring is rated in gauge and the lower the number the larger the wire. A 28 gauge rated wire is approximately 60% smaller than 24 gauge. Some cabling has a rating listed as two numbers like 28/28. The first number is the data lines and the second is the power wires. 28/28 is a common cheap wire and 28/24 is a better value.

It’s better to have larger wiring in a USB cable (small gauge numbers are larger and better)
