No WiFi on Laptop: Simple Fix to an Overlooked Issue – Ask a Tech #23

Posted by & filed under Video Post 2.

A viewer of the GuruBrew2 recently ask a question about her laptops WIFI not working. Could it be this easy to fix?

Title of Question: NO WiFi

The Question: Hi you have great videos.
I figured if anyone you would know the answer to my issue.
I have a Dell Latitude E5500 laptop, it has an old version of Photoshop on it. I am doing everything possible to keep this computer up & running.
I somehow shut off my WiFi.
The troubleshooter states “the windows wireless is not running on the computer”
A different scan stated that the WiFi card was off.
This all started when I had an issue with the Bluetooth driver not working although it was installed & up to date: Bluetooth peripheral code #28.
I tried every fix I found on the net. This has been going on over a week.
Trying to fix the Bluetooth #28 error, I somehow shut off my WiFi or it is a coincidence that my WiFi stopped working too.
I am currently plugged into an Ethernet cable connected to my router.
WiFi works on other electronics. I tried every fix I could find with no luck.
Frustrated, I replaced both the WiFi Card (your video) & Bluetooth cards but that did not fix my issue.
I recently replaced the hard drive. I have the old hard drive in a Star tech external enclosure.
I can boot up the external hard drive per USB cable separately and run windows 7, WiFi won’t work on that either, it did before this issue.
Also when booting up the old hard drive from USB, everything up to today’s date is available.
So anything I do to one hard drive will properly affect the other. I was thinking of doing a clean windows 7 install on that only but I’m afraid it will affect the hard drive in my computer & I will lose Photoshop..
I do have all of the Dell Windows 7disks that came with the computer. Is there a way I can do a repair with the windows 7 disk?
I have a windows system image from 2012.
I have a “transfer’ of docs & photo from 2014.
Can I use the 2012 system image & NOT lose my programs???
Then transfer all docs, photos etc from 2014? .
thanks in advance for your help. Buying a new computer is out of the question for me right now.
