Homemade Cyclone Dust Filtration Separator for CNC Router

Posted by & filed under Video Post.

Using a CNC router to cut wood with fine partials such as MDF can create a lot of sawdust very quickly. A vacuum connected physically to the machine is necessary to remove the waste but can quickly become clogged up by the fine partials and dramatically lower the efficiency of a vacuum. A bag less attachment to our existing shop vacuum seems like a great way to remedy the problem.

I found files on thingiverse.com to 3D print my own cyclone separator so I picked one of the designs I liked the best an gave it a try. The following video reviews the steps I had taken to create this project and test the system.

Quick Definition: Cyclonic separation is a method of removing particulates from an air, gas or liquid stream, without the use of filters, through vortex separation. Rotational effects and gravity are used to separate mixtures of solids and fluids.
