How to Make Your Own Anti-Backlash Nuts – Ask a Tech #39

Posted by & filed under Video Post 2.

Backlash is an engineering term that basically means slop or play between two surfaces in a mechanically moving device. Gear trains or lead screws are typically the subject of this discussion. I show how I made my own simple anti-backlash nuts to compensate for this problem when installed in a CNC router cutter machine.

Your Name: Jim
Title of Question: CNC

The Question: Watched your video on your reworking your old CNC machine. You talked about the anti-backlash nut and was wondering if you could provide more information on how to build.
I built my own CNC machine using MDF and the drive shafts are 1/2″ 13 TPI steel rod.
You have great videos!
