Using and Connecting Network Switches to Share Resources

Posted by & filed under Video Post.

A network switch is a hardware device that joins multiple computers together on a single local area network (LAN). Network switches are almost identical to network hubs, but a switch usually contains more intelligence and a slightly higher cost than a hub.
Network switches are capable of inspecting data packets as they are received by determining the source and destination device of each packet, and forwarding them appropriately on the network unlike a hub. Switches can also be connected together to create even larger arrays of computer communications.
